On Monday, May 13, 2024, seven representatives from the Geological Survey of Slovenia, the Faculty of Mining, Geology, and Petroleum Engineering in Zagreb, and the Applied and Environmental Geology Group at the University of Basel in Switzerland visited a pilot geothermal power plant in Slovenia. The visit was part of an excursion for the joint research project InnoGeoPot, exploring the possibility of converting existing wells into deep heat exchangers (geosondes) for the purposes of heat production or underground heat storage. The project also develops a decision-making system for the cross-border Slovenian-Croatian area and the urban centers of Ljubljana and Zagreb. The experiences, development methods, and technical modifications of the existing well Pg-8 for the pilot power plant are extremely important for the approach of the new InnoGeoPot project, even though the latter’s target applications and depths are less demanding and smaller.
